SDSU Women Take Over in 2nd Half for Win Over Irvine

Shelda Arceneaux scored 11 of her 15 points in the second half to lead San Diego State to a 57-52 women’s basketball team victory over host UC Irvine Thursday in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. game.

Arceneaux also had 12 rebounds for the Aztecs (3-1 in conference 10-8 overall). Irvine (3-3, 11-8), had led, 27-26, at halftime, but scored only three points in the first eight minutes of the second half and shot 23% from the field in that period.

Jessica Haynes added 12 points and 12 rebounds and Lisa Stevens also had 12 points for SDSU.

The Aztecs used a full-court press most of the game to help create 27 Irvine turnovers.

Irvine scorers were led by senior guard Valerie Dean’s 18 points. Sophomore center Natalie Crawford had 12 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocked shots and 4 steals.
