McMartin Case: ‘Begging for Answers’

Up to now your paper has shown reportorial restraint and editorial integrity on the subject of child credibility in cases of alleged abuse. Conrad’s cartoon (Jan. 21) showing two children walking past the figure of justice is an unfortunate and unwarranted departure from your policy of objective neutrality.
What the cartoon really shows is an appalling ignorance of the facts on Conrad’s part, which reflects ignorance itself. Conrad and others should be reminded that children at times live in a world of their own reality and are somewhat less than credible in relating their “experiences.”
Fortunately, justice is not blind to this obvious fact of life.
