FRANKFORT, Ky. —
The state treasurer and six co-defendants were found not guilty Friday of charges that they had misused state employees and property in her 1983 campaign.
Frances Jones Mills leaped to her feet and raised her hands in victory as Circuit Judge William Graham announced the unanimous verdict of acquittal after a nine-week trial.
The charges stemmed from allegations of abuse of state personnel during her campaign for treasurer. Mills, a Democrat, was secretary of state at the time.
