BANGKOK, Thailand — Booby traps planted by Vietnamese forces killed four Thai soldiers along the Thai-Cambodian border during the weekend, the Thai military said Sunday.
Three soldiers were killed Saturday while patrolling in Ubon Ratchathani province, 400 miles northeast of Bangkok, the military said.
The fourth death occurred in the same area a day earlier as troops were clearing booby traps. Three other soldiers were seriously injured, military sources said.
Vietnam has received more than 100,000 of the booby traps from the Soviet Union, according to Prasong Sonsiri, Thailand’s National Security Council chief.
The traps have been planted along the Thai-Cambodian border to restrict the movements of Cambodian guerrillas fighting the Vietnamese occupation of Cambodia.
