While $550,000 has been donated or pledged to build a hotel for women at the South Orange County YWCA, the balance of the $1 million needed must be raised by March 14 in order for the facility to open as planned by Christmas, according to Marlee Parker, a spokeswoman for the organization raising the money.
The 40-bed hotel, to be constructed atop the existing YWCA gymnasium at 1411 N. Broadway in Santa Ana, is planned to help homeless women gain self-respect in a “recovery environment,” according to a spokesman for the Program for Women Foundation. Donations by check should be made payable to “YWCA Hotel for Women” at the YWCA, 1411 N. Broadway, Santa Ana.
