Mixed-Race Protest in S. Africa

CAPE TOWN, South Africa — About 30 mixed-race lawmakers, charging, “We have been mistreated for so long,” staged a sit-in today after being refused meals in the whites-only members’ dining room in Parliament in the second challenge to apartheid in two days.
Six mixed-race, or “Colored,” lawmakers were refused meals in the dining room Monday. Today, waiters refused to serve the 30 and removed salad bowls and water from their tables, and the group left after an hour. One white opposition lawmaker vowed to boycott the restaurant until it is integrated.
