U.N. Copter Down in S. Lebanon

BEIRUT —
A U.N. helicopter with six people on board disappeared in south Lebanon today, and the United Nations reported that it made a forced landing because of bad weather.
Police said the craft’s three French passengers and three Italian crewmen were taken captive by Sunni Muslim militiamen in the port city of Sidon. Later, Mustafa Saad, commander of a Syrian-backed alliance of militias in Sidon, said the six U.N. peacekeepers had been turned over to him and would be released to U.N. officials.
