Ticker Freeman, a song plugger who composed such popular standards as “So Dear to My Heart,” “You’ll Always Be the One I Love” and “Baby Don’t Be Mad at Me,” died last Thursday at a Van Nuys hospital of cancer.

The musical arranger and conductor on Dinah Shore’s long-running television show of the 1950s was 74.

Freeman began his long career as an accompanist and song plugger for music publishing houses in the 1930s.

In 1951 he was the on-the-air accompanist for Miss Shore on her first live 15-minute musical show which filled out a half-hour segment that included the NBC nightly news.

He also performed as a piano soloist and occasional host to Miss Shore’s guests. That program gave way to the hour-long “The Dinah Shore Chevy Show” in 1956.
