A special edition of “3-2-1 Contact,” the daily PBS science series for young viewers, will talk about “Being an Astronaut,” exploring the lives of astronauts and their work in space sciences and technology. KCET Channel 28 will air the segment Monday at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Al Hyslop, executive producer of the series, said that “as children struggle to cope emotionally with the traumatic experience of the space shuttle disaster, it is important to help them put in perspective the feelings astronauts have about themselves and their work.”

This segment, drawn from past “Contact” programs on space, focuses on four astronauts: Charles Bolden, Sally Ride, Mary Cleave and Franklin Chang-Diaz.
