J. W. (Bill) Mattman, whose Fullerton firm provided security for the Olympic torch run in the 1984 Summer Games, will be in charge of security for the Hands Across America project on Memorial Day.

Hands Across America, sponsored by USA for Africa, whose record and video “We Are the World” has raised millions for famine relief in Africa, will join hands in a human chain stretching from New York to Los Angeles.

The purpose of the 240-mile event is to draw attention to the plight of America’s homeless and hungry people.
