It took a year for Markus Wasmeier of West Germany to show that he is no fluke.

Wasmeier, surprise winner of the giant slalom in the World Championships on Feb. 7, 1985, raced to victory again Sunday in a World Cup super giant slalom at Morzine, France.

“This is a confirmation of my world championship race,” said Wasmeier, who also ended a seven-year World Cup winless drought for the West German men’s team. “It was important for me and the entire team.”

Starting first on the rapidly-deteriorating Vuarnet course, Wasmeier posted a time of 1 minute 22.32 seconds down the 1,660-meter run--1.04 seconds better than Marc Girardelli of Luxembourg.

Girardelli, defending World Cup overall champion and current points leader, had his best results of the season this week in super giant slaloms. He won the race at Cranmonana, Switzerland, Tuesday for his only victory of the campaign after winning 11 times in 1984-85.

Girardelli has 212 points, with Peter Mueller of Switzerland second with 186. Wasmeier, whose victory also gave him a win in the combined event after he finished 16th in the downhill Saturday, took third place with 169 points.

Austrians Hubert Strolz, Guenther Mader and Hans Enn finished 3-4-5, and Americans Bill Johnson and Doug Lewis were far back in 38th and 44th places.

Corinne Schmidhauser of Switzerland scored her first World Cup victory by winning a slalom race at Hrebienok, Czechoslovakia.

Nadia Bonfini of Italy prevented a Swiss sweep, as veteran Erika Hess and Brigitte Gadient finished third and fourth.

The 21-year-old Schmidhauser was second in the first heat in 40.13 and her 44.44 in the second run, was enough for a winning aggregate of 1 minute 24.27 seconds.

Olga Charvatova of Czechoslovakia led after the first run, but was among 30 racers of the starting 55 who did not finish.

Tamara McKinney of Squaw Valley, Calif., was fifth in 1:25.29.
