County treasurer-tax collector James E. Jones announced Tuesday that he would not seek reelection to the post he has held since 1967.

Jones, who has worked in various capacities for the county for 35 years, said he plans to “play a lot of golf and things like that” upon his retirement.

In his announcement, Jones, 59, said he would support Paul Boland, his chief deputy tax collector, should Boland decide to seek election to succeed him in the $55,400-per-year job. Boland “has done a tremendous job for the county as the chief deputy and is eminently qualified to assume this leadership role,” Jones said.
