U.S. Navy fighters and Libyan planes have crossed paths more than a dozen times since two American aircraft carriers began their latest exercise off Libya’s coast, Pentagon sources said today.

The sources said there had been no confrontation over the central Mediterranean and no hostile or threatening moves by Libyan fighters. But they said the Libyan planes were being dispatched from ground bases at an increased rate compared to the time of the last such American exercise in the Mediterranean during the last week of January.
