Prime Ticket to Carry CS Northridge Sports

The Prime Ticket Network has agreed in principle to televise some spring sports at Cal State Northridge. The particular sports and the number of games to be shown have not yet been determined, according to Prime Ticket spokesman John Jackson.

Forum events have been the main staple of Prime Ticket, which was formed largely through the efforts of Jerry Buss, owner of the Inglewood building as well as the Los Angeles Lakers and the Kings. Driven by an apparently insatiable appetite for events to televise, however, Prime Ticket has dipped heavily into collegiate sports.

CSUN is the ninth school to sign up. USC, UCLA, Pepperdine, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Long Beach, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine and the University of Hawaii were previously added to the program schedule.

“We are attempting to give more exposure to schools like Northridge,” Jackson said. “We think Prime Ticket is an excellent vehicle to showcase athletes in this area. We don’t profess that they will make a great deal of money out of this.”

CSUN will either get a minimum-rights fee or a percentage of advertising profits, whichever is greater.

If the experiment proves successful, Prime Ticket wants to continue its relationship with the Matadors in the fall, extending its coverage to selected football games.

Prime Ticket charges for advertising, but is available, at no extra charge to viewers of several cable systems in Southern California, including Valley Cable.
