Billy Martin is back with the Yankees--behind a microphone. The four-time Yankee manager will join station WPIX-TV and promises not to be objective.

“I’m prejudiced,” he said. “I’m gonna root for the Yankees. I’m gonna be a homer. I’m gonna be able to do something I’ve always wanted to do--tell you what I really feel.”

Yankee owner George Steinbrenner endorsed the move, Martin said.

“George told me it’ll be good for me,” he said. “It’ll keep me in front of the public, it’ll keep me active. He said, ‘You’ll be my eyes every day. You’re my No. 1 assistant, you know.’

“I don’t know what George expects me to do, but I tell you right now, he’s gonna be surprised at what he hears. I’m gonna try real hard not to second-guess Lou (Piniella, Martin’s successor as manager), believe me. I honestly hope Lou wins.”
