Reagan’s Goals for United States

I say “Bravo” to Richard Goodwin for his timely analysis of the President’s State of the Union address in his column (Feb. 6), “Litany of Hope Obscures His Dismantling of Social Gains.” The points he made are 100% correct and it is my hope that your many readers will absorb what he pointed out with regard to the dismantling of social gains.

These social gains are all listed in the remarkable preamble to our Constitution. Let us not go backwards by delegating the rights of its citizens to the private sector. As Goodwin says, “ . . . in a democratic society the only instrument for collective action is government, not ‘the private sector.”’
