The Consumer’s Guide to Home Mortgages (published by the Real Estate Mortgage Advisory, 5555 DTC Parkway, Suite 2001, Englewood, Colo. 80111; 24 pages, $5.95) is a handbook covering 16 types of mortgages, including 30- and 15-year fixed-rate government and conventional loans, shared appreciation, growing equity, ARMs, reverse annuity and biweekly or rapid amortization programs. The guide also discusses qualifying ratios, loan to value, private mortgage insurance and other aspects and provides after-tax interest rate, mortgage worksheet and payment tables.

Handbook of Property Management (Robert Irwin, editor in chief, McGraw-Hill Book Co., 432 pages, $49.95) contains 18 chapters by specialists in property management, covering topics as diverse as drawing up leases, dealing with government agencies, computerization and handling evictions. The book is aimed, according to the publisher, at both large-scale and small-scale property managers.

Investing in Real Estate: How to Do it Right by Dennis M. Brouner (Longman Financial Services Publishing Inc., Chicago, $19.95) is a comprehensive look at the pitfalls of real estate investing, along with the rewards. Surprisingly, the book lacks an index, a serious error in a book with so much useful information. In 307 pages, Brouner, an attorney and an accountant, covers the latest strategies in the complex field of real estate investing.
