Exiled Former Senator Plans to Return Home
Former Philippine Sen. Raul Manglapus, who has lived in the United States in exile for 13 years, will return to the Philippines to join in the celebration of the new government, his wife said Tuesday.
Manglapus, 67, was abroad when President Ferdinand E. Marcos declared martial law in September, 1972, and ordered the arrest of many of Manglapus’ political allies. He said he was certain he would be jailed by Marcos if he returned.
Pacita Manglapus said she and her husband expected to fly to the Philippines today for a short visit. “He wants to join in the celebration,” she said. “He so wanted to go back.”
