Reputed Mob Chief Convicted in Boston
A federal jury Wednesday convicted Gennaro J. Angiulo and three others of racketeering and protecting their lucrative empire through extortion and murder.
Angiulo, reputed to be the mob’s top man in Boston, faces a maximum of 150 years in jail and $180,000 in fines.
Convicted on broad federal racketeering charges along with Angiulo were two brothers and an associate. Another Angiulo brother was convicted on a gambling charge, but was acquitted on the racketeering charges.
Angiulo was found guilty on 12 counts of a 16-count indictment following an eight-month trial.
Lawyers said they would appeal, and the presiding judge revoked bail on all the defendants. Sentencing was scheduled for March 20, Angiulo’s 67th birthday.
The convictions, which followed 6 1/2 days of jury deliberations, carried forfeiture of money and property obtained through racketeering.
More than 100 witnesses testified during the prosecution.
