Lake Tahoe Hotel Tower on Schedule Despite Three Major Disruptions

Despite three major disruptions last week, the first phase of the $100-million, 18-story tower addition to Harvey’s Resort Hotel/Casino will open as scheduled on the Memorial Day weekend in Stateline, Nev., according to a hotel spokesman.

When it is completed, the tower will make the resort/casino the largest in the Lake Tahoe area, according to spokesman Roger Derby. The first phase will feature the opening of 378 of the tower’s 546 rooms, he added. With the 197 existing rooms, the resort will have a total of 575 rooms, he said.

On Oct. 1, 15,000 square feet of new convention space will be completed, Derby said. A combination of a ruptured gas main under the Truckee River, flooding conditions and a downed power line in the mountains virtually shut down the South Shore resort area last week.

The new tower area, which will eventually house 40,000 square feet of casino and gaming activities, is being built directly behind the resort’s existing 11-story structure. The architect is Martin Stern Jr., Architects & Associates, Beverly Hills, and the general contractor is M. M. Sundt Construction, Phoenix.

The additional rooms, new restaurants, a 1,000-seat convention dining room area and a 300-seat cabaret theater will be added in later phases within the new tower area, Derby said.
