Tree People Will Help Reforest Drought-Damaged Cameroon
The Tree People announced Sunday they are sending hundreds of trees to help the African republic of Cameroon reforest its drought-damaged terrain.
The announcement from the private organization dedicated to planting trees wherever they are needed came during a ceremony at the home of Mayor Tom Bradley, who presented the key to Los Angeles to Cameroon President Paul Biya, who is on a four-city tour of the United States.
The mayor told Biya the Tree People would send 2,000 almond and pomegranate trees, but the executive director of the group said later the original plan was to ship 200 of the trees.
“But we can get the whole 2,000,” Andy Lipkis said. “The only problem might be in getting them there.”
The trees are up to 10 feet tall, Lipkis explained.
