The Region : San Diego Police OK Pact

Share

San Diego police approved a proposed contract that will give officers a 17% wage boost over the next two years, union officials said. The pact is expected to receive final approval by the City Council this week, making an initiative that was already printed on ballots for the June 3 election a moot issue. The contract includes a 9% raise July 1 for officers with two or more years of experience and an 8% raise in 1987. Officers with less than two years’ experience will receive 4% raises. Provisions for the contact will also include a four-day workweek with 10-hour shifts and a clause that guarantees officers will automatically receive the best of any benefits negotiated by other city employee groups. The contract was ratified by a 3-1 margin. An earlier association vote was nullified after allegations of cheating were raised.
