A reactor at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation was shut down Sunday for the second time in less than a week.

UNC Nuclear Industries, which operates the reactor for the Energy Department, said the latest shutdown was caused by an apparent instrument malfunction in the reactor’s secondary control system. The reactor was shut down briefly last Thursday because of an apparent fuel element failure and was restarted Friday.
