The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department received national accreditation status Sunday, making it one of only two accredited law enforcement agencies in California, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
The 21-member national Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement determined that the department fulfilled a necessary 743 of 944 requirements set by four of the nation’s top law enforcement organizations.
The Sheriff’s Department met nationally recognized standards in organization, management and administration; personnel compensation, benefits and career counseling; law enforcement; traffic operations, and prisoner transportation, health and safety, Sheriff’s Capt. Wayne Bailey said.
