Memorial services for Martha (Marty) A. Belknap, campus lectures manager at UC Irvine for the last eight years, will be held today at 4 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 3209 Via Lido, Newport Beach.

Mrs. Belknap died Thursday at a Newport Beach nursing home after a two-month illness with a neurological disorder. She was 58 and a resident of Newport Beach.

UC Irvine officials credited Mrs. Belknap’s work with bringing to the campus such notable speakers as Truman Capote, John Houseman, Art Buchwald, Gore Vidal and Coretta King. In her honor, the Arts, Lectures and Student Affairs Communications Office at UCI is establishing the Marty A. Belknap Memorial Lecture endowment to bring a distinguished guest speaker to campus each year.
