‘Ethnicity’

Re Katherine Gray’s letter (Feb. 27); “Ethnicity”: Yes, Ms. Gray, you are being “naive and Pollyannaish.” We “ethnic” groups try to do what’s best for America, but it’s hard when we must face discrimination.

It’s probably very easy for you to say that we should be proud to be Americans; I doubt you have ever been harassed for the terrorism in the Middle East or accused derogatorily of being an illegal alien, just because of the ethnic group you belong to.

I know my parents and grandparents were damn proud to call themselves Americans. During World War II they sacrificed their freedom in “relocation centers” to prove it. Now they’re trying to get something back for this injustice, and people are “sick and tired” of hearing it because it’s not good for America.
