The daughter of a retired actor found shot to death last month in his Canoga Park home has been arrested on suspicion of murder, Los Angeles police said Wednesday.

Jacquelyn S. Charter, 31, was arrested Tuesday night at a West Los Angeles restaurant in connection with the Feb. 19 slaying of her father, Thomas A. Wade, 73, who worked as a supporting actor in Western movies, Detective Stan Miller said.

Charter called police the morning of the shooting and told investigators that she had discovered her father’s body when she entered the house about 9:30 a.m., police said. She said Wade had argued with another man about a newspaper earlier that day and suggested that could have been the motive for the slaying, according to police.

Miller said investigators later learned that Wade and his daughter had argued over her use of his credit card.

The handgun that detectives believe was used to shoot Wade several times in the chest has not been recovered, Miller said.

Charter, who is unemployed, lived in the home with Wade, his wife and their 15-year-old son, Miller said. Wade’s wife was working and his son was in school when the shooting occurred, he said.

Charter is being held without bail at Sybil Brand Institute.
