Fairfax : Tree Planting Postponed

Share

The planting of 52 palm trees along Fairfax Avenue sidewalks has been postponed for at least two months after gas and electrical lines were discovered beneath the surface.

Removal of the existing trees revealed the problem, according to officials of the Vitalize Fairfax Project.

They said the lines, some of which date back to 1928, will have to be rerouted for the planting to proceed. The complication may add as much as $20,000 to the cost of the $97,622 job.

No date was set for the planting to resume, but once the other work is finished, the planting should take less than a week.

The palm trees are part of a face lift that includes new facades and awnings for the shops that line Fairfax Avenue.

Work on the facade improvements is expected to begin by the end of this month, a spokesman for Vitalize Fairfax said.
