Arms Talks Negotiator Named
President Reagan today named Ronald F. Lehman, deputy to former Sen. John Tower at the U.S.-Soviet arms control talks in Geneva, to succeed Tower as the chief U.S. negotiator for strategic weapons reductions. Tower resigned earlier this week for personal reasons.
Lehman, 39, is a member of Reagan’s National Security Council staff and has been serving as the deputy U.S. negotiator on long-range nuclear weapons since January, 1985, when the United States and Soviet Union agreed to resume arms control talks that broke off in 1983.
