Michael Drummond, the youngest recipient of a Jarvik 7 artificial heart, was released from the hospital Tuesday after undergoing tests and treatment for his fourth mild case of donor heart rejection.

Drummond, 26, of Phoenix, made medical history Aug. 29 when he became the world’s youngest recipient of a Jarvik 7 and the first to have the heart pump implanted as a temporary bridge to life. The polyurethane heart kept him alive nine days until he received a donor heart from a 19-year-old Texas accident victim.
