Yugo of America filed a lawsuit against Toyota.

In its multimillion-dollar lawsuit, the importer of Yugo cars alleges that Toyota made threats against Toyota dealers who had signed up to sell the low-priced Yugo. The lawsuit names Toyota Motor Sales USA of Torrance, Toyota Motor Distributors and Bob McCurry, senior vice president of Toyota Motor Sales. Since it began importing its celebrated $3,990 Yugoslavian-made Yugo car to the United States last fall, Yugo has been signing up dealers who sell other types of cars rather than try to set up a costly independent dealer chain. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, alleges interference with laws governing car dealerships and violation of the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.
