Irvine : Arraignment Date Set for Developer Goeden

The head of a bankrupt Irvine development company is scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court on March 27 on charges of bribery, grand theft and embezzlement.

Gerald F. Goeden was bound over for trial after a six-week preliminary hearing on charges he diverted funds from buyers of homes in his three county projects in Laguna Niguel, Orange and San Juan Capistrano, as well as bribing a bank official to obtain loans.

Goeden, a Fountain Valley resident, was president of the Goeden Co., which specialized in building expensive residential tracts. The firm went into bankruptcy proceedings in 1984.

Authorities claim that Goeden diverted $146,000 in down payments from buyers in the Crown Royale project in Laguna Niguel and also failed to forward to a lender house payments that buyers made directly to him.
