It irks me that whenever it appears the American public might realize a few pennies savings on a gallon of gasoline, everybody, including The Times, begins clamoring for additional taxes.
Did it ever occur to anyone that gasoline is firstly a necessity for the American public to earn a living and only secondly a luxury?
Most will admit that primary luxuries should bear the brunt of taxes. How about jewelry and furs?
