Prostitutes working in Nevada’s 36 legal bordellos will have to undergo monthly testing to detect the presence of the AIDS antibody under regulations adopted by the state Health Board on Wednesday.

The regulations, which also require testing as a condition of employment in a brothel, become effective as soon as the Legislative Counsel Bureau formally adopts the wording, probably within 30 days.

According to statistics released this week, there have been 37 diagnosed cases of acquired immune deficiency syndrome in Nevada so far and three of the victims have been women. However, the board was told that the national Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta have recently included prostitutes on their list of groups with a high risk of contracting the disease.
