Two people who had not played together in a year captured the Open Pairs championship in the most prestigious pairs event at the 1986 Spring North American Bridge Championships.

Lew Stansby, of Castro Valley, Calif., and Ralph Katz, of Chicago won the title Monday night. They first played together in the 1985 championship and agreed to meet again to play one year later.

Runner-up honors went to John Ringstorff and Robb Gordon of New York, who paired off for the first time to play in the open pairs. Qualifying in the middle of the field after the first day of the two-day event, Ringstorff and Gordon put together two strong final sessions on the second day.
