Alcoa is planning a major acquisition.

Charles Parry, chairman of Aluminum Co. of America, said the company wants to acquire a company with $2 billion in annual sales as part of a diversification plan. Alcoa has been focusing on three or four companies and could make a bid within several months, he said. In addition, Parry said he is “not optimistic” about earnings for the first quarter.
