Vreni Schneider of Switzerland, proving that she has completely recovered from a midseason knee injury, won a giant slalom ski race in Waterville Valley, N.H., and captured the World Cup title in that discipline.

Schneider breezed to her third victory of the year and the title by finishing first in both runs--in 1 minute 8.33 seconds during the morning and 1:05.09 in the afternoon.

Her combined time of 2:13.42 was 1.73 seconds ahead of Austrian newcomer Anita Wachter, whose second-run time of 1:05.72 gave her an aggregate of 2:15.15.

The victory, worth 25 points, increased Schneider’s point total to 95, seven more than West Germany’s Traudl Haecher, whose season ended last weekend when she injured a knee during downhill training at Vail, Colo.
