It’s Tough on Rich in Wellesley: Only 2 Live-Ins Per House
- Share via
WELLESLEY, Mass. — The town of Wellesley has voted to limit homeowners to two live-in servants.
The restriction on household staff was approved in a unanimous vote at Tuesday night’s town meeting after Building Inspector Arthur Conte said some people were attempting to circumvent the prosperous town’s multifamily zoning laws by claiming that boarders were servants.
Multifamily residences are allowed by special permit only in certain areas of the Boston suburb, which has one of the highest per capita incomes in the state.
Resident C. Ernest Henderson said some of his friends had more than two servants and they needed them to maintain their large estates.
