Variation on a Pizza Theme : Broil Up a Loaf With Cheese, Sauce and Bread

Pizza Beef Loaf is an easy version of the ever-popular pizza. A chunky sauce of ground beef, onion, green pepper, mushrooms, tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese is flavored with oregano and garlic and spread on French bread.

After topping with tomato slices and mozzarella, broil until the cheese melts. Cut into slices and serve with a favorite beverage. PIZZA BEEF LOAF

1 pound ground beef

1 green pepper, chopped

1 onion, chopped

1 clove garlic, finely chopped

4 ounces mushrooms, sliced

1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce

1 1/2 teaspoons ground oregano

1/3 cup Parmesan cheese

Salt, pepper

1 loaf French bread

2 tomatoes, sliced

4 ounces sliced mozzarella cheese

Melted butter

Saute beef, green pepper, onion and garlic in large skillet until beef is browned and onion is tender. Stir in mushrooms, tomato sauce and oregano. Simmer, stirring occasionally, 10 minutes.

Stir in Parmesan cheese. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Cut French bread in half lengthwise.

Spread bottom half of loaf with beef mixture. Cover with tomato slices. Cut mozzarella cheese into triangles and arrange on tomatoes. Spread top half of bread loaf with melted butter.

Broil both halves of loaf until cheese melts and bread is toasted. Cut in slices. Makes 6 servings.
