Midwestern Heat Wave Ends

A massive wave of cold air and rainstorms swept across the country’s midsection today, chasing away a weeklong heat wave that still warmed most of the East Coast with sunny skies and balmy weather in the 70s.
The cold front stretched from the Great Lakes across the Midwest to west Texas and triggered showers and thundershowers from Oklahoma to northern Wisconsin. But forecasters offered little hope that the approaching rain would dampen wildfires burning across parched woodlands in 13 Eastern states.
