Time and the restoration of democracy in Argentina have failed to soften anti-Argentine feeling in the Falkland Islands, according to an opinion poll published Tuesday.

The poll of 1,033 voters, the biggest such survey ever conducted among the islands 1,920 inhabitants, found that four years after Britain expelled an Argentine invasion force, only three Falklanders would vote to live under Argentine rule.

The survey, conducted by mail by the British-based market research company Marplan, found that 94.5% of the islanders wanted continued British rule as opposed to 0.3% who sought Argentine sovereignty.

The survey was commissioned by the London-based Falkland Islands’ Committee, an organization dedicated to keeping the remote South Atlantic islands under British rule.
