Monterey Park : New Fire Chief Appointed

James Owen Page, 49, division chief of the Carlsbad Fire Department in San Diego County, has been appointed fire chief of Monterey Park, effective April 14. Page grew up in Monterey Park, attending Ynez Elementary School and Mark Keppel High School, and joined the Monterey Park Fire Department as a firefighter in 1957. He transferred to the Los Angeles County Fire Department in 1959 and rose to battalion chief before resigning in 1978 to establish two national trade magazines for paramedics and firefighters. He joined the Carlsbad Fire Department as division chief in August, 1984. In Monterey Park, he will succeed Allen McComb, who has been acting fire chief for a year and a half.
