The Philippine Treasury has issued deposed President Ferdinand E. Marcos’ final paycheck--$406.48 to cover his last 24 days in office, a published report said Saturday.

“I won’t say anything about the quality of his work during that time or before, but I suppose he is entitled to it,” Rene Saguisag, spokesman for President Corazon Aquino, told the Manila Times.

Saguisag said Marcos drew his January paycheck, “but the February check for 24 days is still being held here.”

“I rather think he won’t want it, and, anyway, we might want to set if off against his mother’s hospital bill and the money he stole from the country,” Saguisag said.

Marcos’ 93-year-old mother, Dona Josefa Marcos, has been hospitalized for most of the past seven years in the penthouse of the Philippine Heart Center in the Manila suburb of Quezon City. Aquino’s office said last month that it would pay a hospital bill of more than $55,000 for “humanitarian reasons.”

Marcos’ mother is apparently unaware that her son fled the country Feb. 25 in the wake of a civilian-backed military rebellion.

Earlier in the week, Aquino received her first paycheck as president. It totaled $429.49 for 35 days.
