U.S. Action Against Libya

The purpose of the Libyan adventure was not, in my opinion, a test of international law, but it offered us a splendid opportunity to test new missiles under conditions of war and on viable targets. Where else in the world could we destroy with impunity a radar station and several gunboats without risking World War III?

As for the specious argument that we sailed into the Bay of Sidra as a right of free navigation in international waters, that is rubbish. International maritime law provides for the “innocent passage” of vessels. An armada bristling with missiles and unprecedented firepower as well as having a nuclear-powered ship is hardly innocent.
