Austria to Get Waldheim File

UNITED NATIONS — The United Nations will give Austria access to a confidential U.N. War Crimes Commission file on former Secretary General Kurt Waldheim, just as it has agreed to do for Israel, a U.N. spokesman said today.
Austrian U.N. Ambassador Karl Fischer said access was requested with Waldheim’s consent, and that Waldheim--who is campaigning for the Austrian presidency--would be informed of information obtained. Fischer said the request was made because of “serious, incriminating allegations” against Waldheim in connection with his activities as a German officer in the Balkans in World War II.
