McConnell Captures Scratch Main Event

Shawn McConnell of Brea won the four-lap scratch main event Friday night before a crowd of 5,449 in the weekly Speedway Motorcycle races at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.

The win was McConnell’s first scratch main event title at Costa Mesa. He also became the third winner of the scratch main event in the three-week-old season.

Mike Faria of Colton finished second, Alan Christian of Huntington Beach placed third and Santa Ana’s Robert Pfetzing was fourth. Rookie Ronnie Correy of Fullerton won the five-lap handicap main event.
