Volunteers canvassed a two-square-mile area of Atlanta, stopping people on the streets and in stores in hopes of finding clues to the slayings of four black women, all killed since March 1. The victims, between the ages of 60 and 85, lived alone and were smothered or strangled. All were sexually assaulted and their apartments ransacked. “Somebody knows something, somebody saw something,” said state Sen. Arthur Langford, who organized the canvass.
