French Punk Rockers Riot Over Concert Ban
More than 150 punk-rock fans, angered by a ban on their weekly concert in a vacant factory, rampaged through the streets, police said Sunday.
The trouble began when youths gathered Saturday for the weekly concert in an improvised concert room, advertised as “Rock at the Factory.” Police ordered them to leave, and they did so peacefully.
However, an hour later, a growing number of the youths spilled into nearby streets and turned over six cars, set fires, destroyed traffic lights and telephone booths and hurled rocks at police. Two officers were injured, while 72 of the youths were arrested.
