Costa Mesa : City OKs Study to Assess Needs of Senior Citizens

The City Council approved an $18,000 study to assess what the city can do to improve the quality of life for Costa Mesa’s senior citizens.

Keith Van Holt, the city’s director of leisure services, said the four-month study would, among other things, take stock of current senior services and compare them with other cities in the county.

“Once the study is completed,” Van Holt said, “we will have a public forum with the seniors to discuss what they see as their needs and then provide our findings to the council.”

The 1980 census estimates Costa Mesa’s senior population at 6,500 or about 8% of the total population of 86,000.

The contract was awarded to Bette L. Davis and Associates of Los Angeles.
