Libya Information Ministry official said today that all American and Western European reporters were being ordered out of the country immediately.

The word came from junior ministry officials at the Tripoli hotel where about 250 Western journalists were staying. Reporters were trying to contact higher officials to confirm that they were being ordered to leave.

British Broadcasting Corp. correspondent Dave Loyn said he was having breakfast with other Western correspondents when Libyan officials told them they had to get on buses for the airport within 10 minutes.

He said an official told him the move was in retaliation for deportation orders issued Tuesday by Britain against 21 Libyan students.
